“When Jesus had called the twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.” – Luke 9: 1-2
Sometimes, we can forget that the twelve disciples were ordinary men…
Who had an extraordinary experience with God.
Jesus knew that as men, they would encounter challenges, opposition, fear, and persecution.
So, he commissioned them and “gave them power and authority.”
And today, in the first email of The King’s Code series, we’ll break down how Jesus equipped 12 ordinary fishermen and ragamuffins…
To become Kingdom leaders who, as Acts 17:6 says, “turned the world upside-down.”
One of the main ways Jesus did this was by giving them authority…
Which is why “authority” is the first “A” in The King’s Code.
Authority signifies both power and identity.
This is significant, because as Christ’s ambassadors, we are called and commissioned to continue His work on the earth.
As a child of the Most High God, you are made in His image.
You are empowered by His Holy Spirit.
And you carry the atmosphere of Heaven with your presence.
So we don’t need to fear demons, disease, or even death because we have authority over those things.
In Luke 10:19, Jesus reiterates this…
“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
With Christ in us, we can walk confidently, facing every challenge we face with the authority of Heaven.
Because true authority can only be granted by someone over you.
The Roman Centurion knew this when he told Jesus, “I too am a man under authority.”
He knew how authority worked in the Roman system he was part of.
Which is why he said to Jesus, “Only say the word, and my servant will be healed.”
That’s because he knew that just ONE word from Jesus, who had the authority over sickness, was all that was needed for healing to take place.
So how important is this concept of “authority?”
Well, there’s only two times in the Bible where it says “Jesus marveled.” And one of them is right after this interaction Jesus had with the Centurion who understood how authority works (Matt. 8:10).
In other words, it’s a pretty big deal.
And so today you have a choice…
We can choose to yield to the authority of the King of kings.
We can choose to place our lives under His rule and lead our families and our businesses by His Word.
We can choose to use the authority He’s given us to continue His work on the earth.
So, what challenges are you facing today that need to be brought under the authority of King Jesus?
Ask the Lord to show you…
Then speak the word in faith so you can see that challenge resolved.
To your success,
Josh and Joshua
